Valentine’s Day, or the weekend before or after, is usually filled with flowers, cards, and candy or "romantic" dinners at a chain restaurant. If you are looking for a unique experience, continue on this reading journey.
Horseback Riding (Waymart, PA)
Happy Trails Stables is located in Waymart, Pennsylvania. It was in an out of the way place, so if you do not know the area you may not know this place exists. The stables are open all year round and although my purpose was for a date, it is family friendly.

The day we went it was a brisk Saturday and slightly windy but still comfortable enough to proceed with the ride. All the staff there was very friendly, and it was very affordable. For a one-hour ride for two people, I did not pay more than $100. I cannot remember the exact price and you have to email the for the new prices. Before the ride, we were able to get acclimated to the horses. The horses were very calm, and you could tell they have been through this multiple times. The horse I rode was Ruby. At first, I was a little nervous because it had been well over 30 years since I had rode a horse, but the whole ride went very smooth. The guide, Sam, talked us through the Do’s and Don’ts and answered any questions we had. She made it feel like a group of friends going through a casual stroll on a trail. I can tell you that my legs were super sore after the ride Lol, but it was well worth the experience. If you are in the area or willing to travel a little bit, I definitely recommend Happy Trails Stables!
Windmill Creek Vineyard and Winery (Berlin, Maryland)
Ever ate a meal inside an igloo? Windmill Creek Vineyard and Winery in Berlin, Maryland offers an igloo dining experience from November to March. I am always looking for unique experiences and found this, I believe, via a Google search. Reservations must be made for this two-hour experience, and they charge a $35 reservation fee that does not go towards the food. While waiting to be seated outside in our private igloo, we sat inside the main restaurant area which is an old farm house converted into a bar and dining area. The farm house is decorated with past pictures of the farmhouse and the vineyard. It is a nice place to bring family for lunch or dinner or a hangout for friends.

The wait was not very long, although it was very busy the day we went. After about a 10-minute wait, we walked out to the private igloos which can hold up to six people. My visit was for a day date and the igloo served its purpose. It was raining the day my partner and I went but the igloo was nice, warm and cozy. There were white lights surrounding the inside of the igloo and soft jazz music played in the background. The table was set for the two of us with paper products like for takeout. It was not as fancy as I had hoped but it was a nice ambiance, nonetheless. The food was served fondue style made for two. We had the steak and shrimp option with crab dip as an appetizer and a nice bottle of Gruner Veltliner wine. For dessert, we had fruit (strawberries, oranges etc.) and chocolate also fondue style.
I think what would have made the experience better is if it was not raining so we could have walked around the vineyard. It was a bit muddy and not walkable at the time. Overall, if you just want to try something different and have an open mind, I recommend it!
